Tom has been performing professionally for over 30 years.
He began his musical career studying classical piano during his childhood.
He began playing guitar as a teenager, and later switched to bass. Music
seems to run in Tom's family, as he was initially influenced by his older
brother, the world-renowned jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Jim
McNeely
Tom studied at Northeastern University and minored in
Music Theory,as well as trained in the Northeastern Illinois University
Jazz Band. He studied music theory at the Jamie Abersol Music Clinics
and studied bass with the well-known Chicago bassist Kelly Sill. He has
also done extensive performance work with the renowned bassist Bruno Michealotti.
Tom has done many studio sessions in the Chicago area, and has played
in bands opening for Kenny Rogers and other notable artists in the Chicagoland
area.
Tom has been a member of Confetti
since 1990. Prior to Confetti, he performed
with many different Pop/Rock and Jazz groups in the Chicagoland area.
He was the leader of the Wedding/All Occassion bands Topaz and Paradise,
and played in the Music Gallery Orchestra under the leadership of Ron
Lemm. He is also band leader and bassist in the jazz trio Essence of Jazz
along with George.
Tom is a natural musician with a great ear for melody,
harmony, timing and arrangements. He has an extremely wide repertoire
and is comfortable playing any style of music. He employs a wide variety
of musical influences which he incorporates into a playing style that
is uniquely his own. Tom's bass solos have to be heard to be believed.
Tom loves variety and his instrumentation can use as many as three different
types of bass guitars at a single performance. He enjoys all styles of
music, but Jazz and Rock & Roll are his favorites.
